The District of Houston (the “District”) is interested in receiving submissions from design-builders with a minimum of five (5) successfully completed, innovative playground projects in the previous six years. Both the design team and the contractor team should provide evidence of this requirement early in their submission. In addition, those design-build teams who have worked together on their projects will be rated higher in the evaluation process. Project work in rural and remote communities, together with experience in developing playgrounds for and in extreme winter conditions will also rate higher. The District supports the Provincial Government’s initiative to “Buy BC” and “Buy Canadian” manufactured products, where feasible and practical, to support our economy. The current Steelhead Park, located just off Highway 16 in Houston, BC, and owned by the District, currently has a playground structure that is to be demolished. The new playground is to be constructed in the same location. As there is an existing playground, no geotechnical or archaelogical works are anticpated. There are no water features or washrooms associated with this work. The project budget for all works associated with the new playground, generally including demolition, design, civil works, complete supply and installation and warranty is anticipated to be up to $300,000. The District anticipated the new playground being completed and open to the public in the spring of 2026.
