Site work and paving for a sidewalk / parking lot in Topeka, Kansas. Completed plans call for site work for a sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.
Gage Geology Yard Repaving This project consists of driveway and parking lot repair and repaving. Repair consists of full depth asphalt patching of select areas. Repaving consists of a uniform 2" milling of the existing asphalt surface followed by a 2" HMA overlay. The project is located within the Kansas Dept. of Transportation Geology yard located 101 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS. All work for this project shall be performed in a professional and workmanlike manner and be in accordance with the 2015 Kansas Department of Transportation Specifications and latest special provisions active on the date the project is awarded. This is a MEASURED QUANTITY project. Final payment will be adjusted to reflect measured quantities of the bid items listed at the end of this specification. 1. All work shall follow the "2015 Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction" as amended by current special provisions and these general notes below. 2. All work shall be performed Monday through Friday. Work on Saturday may be allowed with prior notification but only for areas outside of the fenced enclosure. Night work will not be allowed. 3. Millings and waste excavation will become property of the contractor and disposed of off-site. 4. All asphalt material shall be commercial grade "Class A" asphalt suitable for the intended application. Asphalt placed shall use PG Grade 70-28 binder. KDOT may test the mix during construction to ensure that specifications are met including the binder grade. Tack will be considered subsidiary to other items in the contract. The bottom 4" of asphalt placed in the 6" full depth areas shall use PG Grade 64-22 binder. The top 2" of asphalt placed shall use PG Grade 70-28 binder. KDOT may test the mix during construction to ensure that specifications are met including the binder grade. Tack will be considered subsidiary to other items in the contract. 5. AREA 1 - work consists of repaving of the driveway & parking lot areas shown in Attachment and includes: a. Milling - mill a nominal 2" of existing asphalt pavement making adjustments as necessary to preserve or restore positive drainage. Care should be taken to protect concrete aprons, sidewalks and adjacent fencing or structures. Surfaces must be broomed and cleaned thoroughly prior to placement of the HMA overlay. This work will be measured and paid for by the square yard as "Milling". b. HMA Overlay - Place a nominal 2" overlay on all milled areas making thickness adjustments as necessary to preserve or restore positive drainage. Asphalt tack is required on the milled surface prior to placement of the overlay. This work will be measured by the delivery ticket ton with deducts for material returned to the plant. This work will be paid for by the total tons of asphalt incorporated into the project as "HMA-Commercial Grade (Class A). 6. AREA 2 - work consists of repaving parking lot areas shown in Attachment and includes: a. Removing approximately 2 inches of broken asphalt and 4 inches of base material to prepare for 6 inches of new asphalt. This area was cored by KDOT and 2 inches of existing broken asphalt was found. No extra payment will be made for any additional depth of asphalt found during the project in this area. b. HMA Overlay - Place a nominal 6" overlay in multiple lifts in this area making thickness adjustments as necessary to preserve or restore positive drainage. This work will be measured by the delivery ticket ton with deducts for material returned to the plant. This work will be paid for by the total tons of asphalt incorporated into the project as "HMA-Commercial Grade (Class A). 7. AREA 3 and 3a - work consists of repaving parking lot areas shown in Attachment and includes: a. Removing approximately 2 inches of broken asphalt and 10 inches of base material to prepare for 6 inches of aggregate base (AB-3) and 6 inches of new asphalt. This area was cored by KDOT and 2 inches of existing broken asphalt was found. No extra payment will be made for any additional depth of asphalt found during the project in areas 3 and 3a. During the KDOT coring, Section 3a was found to have 6 inches of existing asphalt so 15 CY of rock excavation was added to the quantities. b. HMA Overlay - Place a nominal 6" overlay in multiple lifts in this area making thickness adjustments as necessary to preserve or restore positive drainage. This work will be measured by the delivery ticket ton with deducts for material returned to the plant. This work will be paid for by the total tons of asphalt incorporated into the project as "HMA-Commercial Grade (Class A). 8. Phase construction work so as to maintain access to KDOT buildings and yards. Coordinate with KDOT staff daily. KDOT contact for work within the Geology yard will be Kyle Halverson (785-600-8165). 9. Contractor shall give KDOT seven working days' notice before beginning project. Failure to attend the pre-bid conference will result in rejection of your bid. Questions requesting clarification of the Bid Event must be submitted electronically (MS Word) to the Procurement Officer (Event Contact) indicated above prior to close of business on August 7, 2025. Impromptu questions may be permitted and spontaneous unofficial answers provided, however bidders should understand that the only official answer or position of the State of Kansas will be presented in writing.
