This project, located in Frederick and Howard Counties, is for the construction of the upgrade and replacement of Truck Weigh and Inspection Stations (TWIS) infrastructure and equipment (hardware and software) at the New Market (I-70 Eastbound) and West Friendship (I-70 Westbound) TWIS. The work will be contained within the station limits between the physical gores for the off- and on-ramps and includes approach signing upgrades. All work will be completed with the TWIS closed during construction. The work will consist of the following infrastructure and equipment (hardware and software) improvements at the New Market (I-70 Eastbound) and West Friendship (I-70 Westbound) TWIS, as noted on the plans and in the Special Provisions. The work will consist of the following: (a) New Market (I-70 Eastbound) TWIS: a. Scale specific improvements: i. Replace the WIM on the ramp approaches. ii. Upgrade the computer system to work with the WIM sorting for trucks. iii. Replace truck over height detector with a single pole model. iv. Replace the Christmas tree signal with a mast arm LED DMS. v. Replace static scale. vi. Install automated tire screening. b. Other site improvements: i. Concrete pavement repairs. ii. Out of service parking lot pavement rehabilitation. iii. Replace traffic barrier w-beam. iv. Replace scale house roof. v. Replace the leased inspection shed trailer with a modular office building (inspection shed). vi. Replace the eyewash near the inspection area. (b) West Friendship (I-70 Westbound) TWIS: a. Scale specific improvements: i. Replace the WIM on the ramp approaches. ii. Upgrade the computer system to work with the WIM sorting for trucks. iii. Replace truck over height detector with a single pole model. iv. Replace the Christmas tree signal with a mast arm LED DMSvi. Install automated tire screening. b. Other site improvements: i. Replace the scale house building floor. ii. Concrete pavement repairs. iii. Out of service parking lot pavement rehabilitation. iv. Replace the inspection pit gate and damaged curbing. v.
