Demolition, site work and addition to an educational facility in Long Beach, California. Completed plans call for the addition of a 61,000-square-foot, two-story above grade educational facility; for the demolition of a educational facility; and for site work for a educational facility.
As of October 29, 2025, construction has not started. Construction is expected to start in July 2026. The bidding phase is complete and they are not seeking bids at this time. *The original solicitation is listed below for historical reference. The PENTA Building Group on Behalf of California State University, Long Beach ("CSULB") An Equal Opportunity Employer is requesting, subject to conditions prescribed by CSULB, proposals from potential subcontractors for the following project: California State University, Long Beach University Student Union Renovation and Expansion Phase 2C & 2D The overall objective of the project is to design, renovate, and expand the existing University Student Union ("USU") building. The project consists of the complete renovation of the existing 3-story, 128,300 SF Student Union, construction of a 2-story 61,000SF addition, as well as 255,000 SF of sitework. The new construction is expected to be a Type 1B structure. Project milestone, Onsite Construction, completion is scheduled for May 28, 2028. Overall budget for the work included in this bid advertisement is approximately $190MM. Scope of Work: Phase 2C plans include the structural scope of work, including but not limited to demolition, concrete, and steel. Phase 2D plans include the complete build-out of the renovation space as well as the new construction, and includes all major divisions of work. These divisions of work include but not entirely limited to, demolition, CIP concrete, CMU, millwork, waterproofing, metal wall panels, roofing, flashing, fireproofing, expansion joints, doors, frames, and hardware, glass and glazing, drywall and framing, stone and tile, ceilings, acoustic wall panels, flooring, painting and wall covering, signage, operable partitions, toilets partitions and accessories, loading dock equipment, food service equipment, grading and earthwork, shoring, asphalt paving, concrete paving and architectural concrete, landscaping and irrigation, and site utilities. Design-Build and/or Design Assist packages have already been preliminarily awarded for structural and misc. steel, vertical transportation, fire protection, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, AV, Data, security, and fire alarm. PENTA is not seeking additional bidders for these packages at this time. Previous Phases (2A and 2B, will have already been completed and have been bid out previously). The project will have prevailing wage and certified payroll requirements, 3% mandatory DVBE participation, and 25% SBE participation goal. Bidders will also need to be prequalified with PENTA's risk management team prior to being awarded any contracts.
