Completed plans call for the addition of a 3,100-square-foot medical facility; for the demolition of a medical facility; for site work for a medical facility; and for the remodel of a 700-square-foot medical facility.
**As of December 4, 2025, this project bid date and time was extended till December 16, 2025.** 5558 Thornton MRI Expansion and Replacement Prequalified B- General Contractors DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This project, located within Thornton Hospital on the UCSD Medical Center- La Jolla Campus, includes a 3,100sqft addition to the existing Radiology suite, as well as a 700sqft interior remodel, to accommodate two (2) new MRI treatment rooms and related support space. Project scope also includes a MRI equipment room, shared control room, inpatient/outpatient holding, nurse station, and soiled holding. The project intends to maintain existing MRI operations during construction. Estimated project duration is 485 calendar days. There is no charge for the Bid Documents which will be made available to the prequalified bidders. Only prequalified bidders will be allowed to submit a Bid on this project. The following bidders have been prequalified to bid on this project: Bids and other documents required to be submitted with the Bid shall be a single PDF uploaded via the e-Builder Bidding Module. Invitation and link will be provided through email. Bid Security in the amount of ten percent (10%) of the Lump Sum Base Bid, excluding alternates, shall accompany each Bid. The Surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the Bid Deadline, listed in the latest published State of California, Department of Insurance, list of Insurers Admitted to Transact Surety Insurance in This State. The successful Bidder will be required to have the following California current and active contractor's license at the time of submission of the Bid: B- General Building Contractor Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University within the limits imposed by law or University policy. Each Bidder may be required to show evidence of its equal employment opportunity policy. The successful Bidder and its subcontractors will be required to follow the nondiscrimination requirements set forth in the Bidding Documents and to pay prevailing wage at the location of the work. n addition, the University is committed to promoting and increasing participation of small business enterprises (SBEs) and disabled veteran business enterprises (DVBEs) relating to all goods and services covered under the awarded agreement, subject to any and all applicable obligations under state and federal law, and University policies. The awarded contractor shall make best efforts to provide qualified SBEs and DVBEs with the maximum opportunity to participate. The work described in the contract is a public work subject to section 1771 of the California Labor Code. Estimated construction cost: $10,200,000 Contractors and subcontractors must use the DIR's upgraded electronic certified payroll reporting (eCPR) system to furnish certified payroll records (CPRs) to the Labor Commissioner. Contractors and subcontractors who have been submitting PDF copies of their CPRs for earlier projects must also begin using the new system.
