Renovation of a water / sewer project in Reading, Pennsylvania. Completed plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project.
The project generally consists of the removal, support, cleaning, rehabilitation, painting, and reinstallation of the existing secondary anaerobic digester cover. The project also includes the removal and replacement of designated valves in the Digester Building, replacement of designated pressure/vacuum relief valve, to rehabilitate, clean, and paint pipe and supports inside Secondary Digester Tank, and to rehabilitate the existing Scumbuster(R) pump. The Contract will be subject to the Prevailing Minimum Wage Determination established by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Labor and Industry. The OWNER hereby reserves the right, which is understood and agreed to by all Bidders, to reject any or all Bids and to waive any omissions, errors, or irregularities in any Bid. PROJECT DESCRIPTION A. There are two anaerobic digesters at the Joint Municipal Authority of Wyomissing Valley's wastewater treatment plant. The project generally consists of the removal, support, cleaning, rehabilitation, painting, and reinstallation of the existing secondary anaerobic digester cover. 1. The Owner will initially disconnect from power and remove the existing scumbuster pump from the secondary anaerobic digester cover and properly store on the ground. Contract One - General Construction will then be responsible to rehabilitate the scumbuster pump as specified and have scumbuster pump rehabilitated and ready to reinstall on the digester cover and reconnect to power after digester cover is reinstalled on the tank. 2. Contract One shall remove and dispose of the existing pressure/vacuum relief valve on the digester cover and replace it with a new pressure/vacuum relief valve as specified. The secondary anaerobic digester is a cylindrical concrete tank that is 50 feet in diameter with a conical floor that slopes to the center. The tank depth is 37 feet at the sides and 46 feet in the center. The tank is equipped with a floating cover which weighs approximately 90,000 pounds including the ballast. Prior to removal of the digester cover, the Owner will remove a portion of the secondary anaerobic digester's contents. There are piping systems on the inside of the digester tank that consist of the following: 1. Sludge intake piping. 2. Piping to withdraw gas from the center of the digester3. Piping to withdraw supernatant from the sides of the digester.4. Piping to withdraw sludge from the bottom of the digester. 5. Piping to mix the digester's contents. The Contractor shall proceed with the work in a manner that will not damage the digester piping. If necessary, the Contractor shall take steps to prevent damage by bracing and supporting the pipe systems. Any measure taken by the Contractor to protect the piping systems shall be at the Contractor's expense and no additional payments will be made by the Owner to the Contractor. 1. Prior to inspection of interior pipe and pipe supports, sandblast all components. 2. The extent of the repairs to the digester tank interior piping and support, if necessary, will be determined by an inspection performed by Engineer, Owner, and General Contractor. A change order will be prepared to cover these costs. 3. After inspection and repairs (if necessary), clean and paint all interior piping and pipe supports as specified.
