The project involves the design and ground-up construction of a Secure Electromagnetic Research Facility (SERF) for the U.S. Navy. The facility will support testing of future radio frequency (RF) equipment and will feature a steel superstructure with insulated metal panel exterior, standing seam metal roof, and concrete deck floors and slab. It will include a foundation and mechanical, electrical, and informational systems designed to meet applicable Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC). Key components of the facility include a high-bay area, indoor anechoic chamber, control room, material lift, shop rooms, passageways, restrooms, and dynamic/static instrumentation walls. Utility rooms will house chamber electrical, telecommunications, electrical, mechanical systems, and a fire pump room. Specialized requirements include an RF shielding system with shielded access doors and absorber material, a clean agent fire protection system controlled by a Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus (VESDA), and long spans of column-free floor space. The facility is designed for occupancy by fewer than 10 people. The Method of Contractor Selection has not been determined at this Time.
