Site work for a playground / park / athletic field in Glen Carbon, Illinois. Completed plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field.

https://www.mrt.com/news/article/schon-park-construction-glen-carbon-il-21115391.php What's that going to be at Schon Park in Glen Carbon?Construction crews have begun work on the third phase of the Schon Park project in Glen Carbon. Jason Koch/The Intelligencer Work is underway on the third phase of improvements to Schon Park in Glen Carbon. Crews began erosion control, grading, and drainage work earlier this month, ahead of major construction work that will add tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts and interconnected sidewalks to the park at 156 N. Main St. That work is expected to begin in the spring, and the estimated completion date for the project is in October 2026 as the village works to expand the park's offerings and invest in one of its most heavily used public spaces. The work was approved during the Sept. 23 village board of trustees meeting. The project's cost is $1.4 million and construction is being handled by Byrne & Jones. Glen Carbon has two grants to help cover the cost of the project — a $600,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and a $150,000 Madison County Parks and Recreation District grant. The newest construction is a continuation of a project that began two decades ago when Glen Carbon first acquired the 36-acre property in 2005. The first phase of construction, which included creation of the pond, a looped walking trail, and other park infrastructure, began in 2012. The first phase of construction cost $835,000, of which $600,800 was covered by grants. Phase two began in 2018 and saw the installation of a new parking lot, playground, restroom facility, additional paved trails, and underground utilities. That construction was handled by Keller Construction and cost about $700,000 with some of the cost covered by an approximately $64,825 Madison County PEP grant. -------------------------- The scope of work for this project includes furnishing all labor, equipment, and materials necessary to construct a new shade canopy system over an existing playground, said system consisting of concrete foundations, steel support poles, a fabric canopy, attaching hardware and cables, and other incidental and collateral items necessary to complete the work as described above in accordance with the project plans, specifications and special provisions.
