Site work and paving for a road / highway in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.

The proposed Work is generally described as follows: City of Kannapolis 2026 Resurfacing Project- Street improvements of 6 named streets (or part thereof) totaling approximately 2.1 miles of pavement. The work shall consist of preparing for paving by patching and/ or resurfacing or other work necessary or as directed by the City Engineer. Female and minority firms are encouraged to submit bids for this project. Bidders are advised that the City of Kannapolis has established a goal of 10 percent (10%) minority business enterprises as mandated by GS 136-28.4. The bidder shall identify in the bid documents the minority business participation it will use on the project. Forms are included in the bid documents for this purpose. All prime contractors bidding must be pre-qualified as "prequalified bidder" by the NCDOT in order to be considered for contract award. All subcontractors must also be pre-qualified as "prequalified bidder" or "subcontractor" by the NCDOT prior to beginning work on the project. All Bids must be in accordance with the Bidding Documents on file with The City of Kannapolis (Owner) and at the office of Alley, Williams, Carmen & King, Inc., 120 South Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Contractors must be licensed contractors with either "Highway" or "Unclassified" license in the State of North Carolina prior to being awarded this contract. All Subcontractors must also be licensed contractors in the State of North Carolina if in accordance with NC General Statue the work subcontracted requires licensure. Bids will be received on a unit price basis. Bid security in an amount of 5% of the Bidder's maximum Bid must accompany each Bid. The Successful Bidder will be required to furnish a Construction Performance Bond and a Construction Payment Bond as security for the faithful performance and the payment of all bills and obligations arising from the performance of the Contract. Contractor and all Subcontractors will be required to conform to the labor standards employment requirements set forth in the Contract Documents. Perform the work covered by this section, including but not limited to, reclamation of roadway by pulverizing, treating with Portland Cement, mixing, and compacting the existing asphalt pavement, base, subbase, and subgrade materials to a specified depth to produce a uniform mixture which meets density requirements. This work consists of reconstructing each shoulder (including median shoulders as applicable) in accordance with Standard Drawing No. 560.01 and 560.02 of the 2024 Roadway Standard Drawings except that the rate of slope and width will be as shown on typical section, or to the existing shoulder point, whichever is nearer, as long as the desired typical is achieved, and when completed, seeding and mulching. This work will include clipping high shoulders and removal and proper disposal of excess material from the project site. Once high shoulders are clipped, the contractor will reshape the shoulder to provide positive drainage away from the pavement in accordance with Standard Drawing No. 560.01 and 560.02. This work may require ditching to provide positive drainage. This work (clipping/reshaping high shoulders) shall be performed prior to milling of the roadway if applicable. This work will also include shoulder drop off repair in accordance with Standard Drawing No. 560.01 and 560.02. This work (shoulder drop off repair) shall be performed immediately after the resurfacing operations are complete as directed by the Engineer. Perform shoulder reconstruction immediately following paving operations and in no case allow paving operations to exceed shoulder operations by more than two weeks without written permission of the Engineer. Failure to meet this requirement shall be cause to cease paving operations until it can be met. Place final pavement marking after shoulder reconstruction. Upon completion of shoulder reconstruction, remove construction signs. The Contractor's attention is directed to the fact that there are areas of existing pavement on this project that will require repair prior to resurfacing. Patch the areas that, in the opinion of the Engineer, need repairing. The areasto be patched will be delineated by the Engineer prior to the Contractor performing repairs.
