The City of Kankakee , IL ,( hereinafter referred to as the " City " ) , a municipal corporation of the State of Illinois , located in Kankakee County ,hereby gives notice of seeking request for proposals for Residential Solid Waste , Yard Waste and Recycling Collection and Disposal Service . The City proposes to contract ( " Collection Contract " ) , for a period commencing on January 1 , 2026 , for curb side /alley collection of refuse , yard waste and recyclable materials . The contract shall include all single - family , attached single - family and multi - family dwellings with three ( 3 ) or less units ( i.e. households ) , which currently receive curb side / alley refuse collection under the current contract ( approximately 7,000 households ). The Collection Contract shall not include multi - family properties over three ( 3 ) units serviced by centralized dumpsters or commercial , industrial or institutional properties , or temporary and permitted dumpsters . See Request for Proposal for detailed requirements. In addition , an alternate proposal , still including all the same requested curb side /alley collection of refuse and yard waste , but subject to the elimination of the curb side / alley collection of recyclable materials . The alternate proposal will include a centralized community approach to recyclable materials by utilizing three ( 3 ) designated City owed sites for the collection of recyclable materials.
