The University proposes to stabilize the concrete deck that separates Switzer Plaza from the north section (Level A) of Parking Structure 18 (PS-18)), which has deteriorated due to water intrusion caused by waterproofing system failures. PS-18 is a 484,000 square foot structure constructed in 1977, consisting of a north subterranean parking section beneath Switzer Plaza and a south parking section adjacent to Le Conte Avenue. The project area totals 37,730 gsf and impacts 14 parking bays. Upon completion of this stabilization project, further investigations will assess the water damage and inform a permanent solution. A separate project will then address structural repairs. The scope of work includes the installation of a temporary, horizontal steel truss reinforcement system to transfer Switzer Plaza's structural loads to Level A of PS-18 and stabilize the structure for future repairs.
