Site work for a water / sewer project in North Waltham, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for site work for a one-story above grade water / sewer project.
**As of February 13, 2026, this project has not yet been awarded. A timeline for the award has not yet been established.** The work includes all labor, materials, and equipment necessary for the installation and rehabilitation of pipelines, meters, valves, and appurtenances, as well as rehabilitation of existing water pipelines in the City of Waltham and Town of Belmont. These water mains are identified as MWRA WASM 3 Sections W10 and W11. Bids must be submitted electronically through the MWRA Supplier Portal, with no paper bids accepted. Interested firms must register and join the Plan Holders List through the portal to access contract documents and submit a bid. A 5% bid deposit is required with all bids. There are specific participation requirements for MBE (7.24%) and WBE (3.6%). The work is to be completed within an estimated time frame of 1,202 days and is being bid pursuant to M.G.L. c. 30, sec. 39M. Payment for all Work shall be based on the Line Item No. 1 lump sum price; Line Item No. 2 Pipe Wall Repair With 3/8 Inch Thick Steel Plate After Cleaning And Prior To Lining, unit price; Line Item No. 3 Pipe Rehabilitation with CFRP Structural Liner, unit price; Line Item No. 4 Police Detail Services, Allowance; Line Item No. 5 Work by Utility Companies, Allowance; Line Item No. 6 Price Adjustment for Diesel Fuel, Gasoline, Liquid Asphalt; and Portland Cement contained in Cast-in-Place Concrete, Allowance; and Line Item No. 7 Fire Watch Services, Allowance. B. Work necessary for the completion of the Work but not covered in any Line Item shall be considered incidental to the Contract and the cost of such incidental work shall be included in, and paid for under the Contractor's Line Item No. 1 lump sum prices. C. Related Sections 1. Section 01300 - Submittals 2. Section 01370 - Schedule of Values A. Provide all labor, materials and supplies necessary to saw cut existing pavements where indicated on the drawings and where directed by the Authority. B. Provide all labor, materials and supplies necessary to saw cut existing concrete pavement sub-base were indicated on the Drawings and where directed by the Authority. A. Scope includes all cleaning and surface preparation of the existing pipeline segments, and installation of the bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite laminates, designed per the requirements of paragraph 2.01, using the wet lay-up technique to the inside surface of pipeline as described herein. All scope listed herein including surface preparation, water mitigation, confined space attendant and confined space program, maintenance of environmental control equipment, mixing of epoxies, saturation of reinforcing fabrics, installation of the CFRP system, supply of QA/QC representative from the CFRP manufacturer onsite for the duration of the project, and installation of end joint details shall be self-performed by the CFRP Installer, meeting the experience requirements outlined in this specification. While the manufacturer's QA/QC representative is required onsite, third-party representatives (as provided by the Authority) shall be provided with access and are permitted to conduct inspections. QA/QC oversight shall be retained to ensure adherence to project standards.: 1. Access for all equipment, materials, and crew shall be through new 24-inch access manways on each end length of pipeline to be rehabilitated as indicated on the contract drawings and described in the summary above. a. Access for the rehabilitation section from station 139+22 to station 142+25 from the east will be through a new access manway installed on a new segment of pipe. The new segment of pipe to the east of the access manway will be installed with a new 60-inch butterfly valve. This access manway is not immediately adjacent to the rehabilitation limits. b. The new 60-inch butterfly valve will be installed as an early schedule constraint, as specified in Section 01015 Paragraph 1.03, and will be utilized as the point of isolation during the structural liner repairs. The Contractor shall provide additional lockout tag out or safety measures as needed to support the structural liner repairs directly adjacent the new 60-inch butterfly valve used as isolation. 2. The CFRP Installer or the Contractor shall provide water mitigation, if there are any holes or leaks in the pipe. This shall be mitigating prior to the CFRP installation. 3. Cure all installed CFRP as required. 4. Clean the pipeline of all debris, equipment, and left-over materials. 5. Completion of all work shall be within the following construction window: (September 15, 2026 through May 15, 2027) - Milestone 1. 6. Reports of pipeline condition assessment, geotechnical reports, and all other relevant data and reports are included in the Appendices. The major components of the Work for MWRA water mains are: 1. Removal of existing water mains, valves, pipes, insulation joints and manholes as indicated on the Drawings. 2. Cleaning and Cement Mortar Lining of approximately 769 feet of 60-inch steel water main (Section W10). 3. Structural Lining of approximately 540 feet of 60-inch steel water main (Section W10). 4. Furnishing and installing valves, precast and cast in place valve vaults, air valves, blow-off valve assemblies, manholes and all appurtenant work along the 12,207 linear feet as in Paragraph A.1 above. 5. Removal and replacement of valves, precast valve vaults, air valves, blow-off valve assemblies, manholes, frames and covers, along the limit of work identified in Paragraph A above. 6. The 60-inch mainline butterfly valve at STA. 144+37 in Felton Street, Waltham, MA, shall be furnished by the Authority. Work of the Contractor shall include pick-up, transportation, installation and testing of the 60-inch mainline butterfly valve. a. The Contractor is to pick up the butterfly valves at the Authority's Weston Reservoir Headquarters & Chlorine Building located at 115 Newton St, Weston, MA 02493. The Contractor is to coordinate pickup with the Authority; Billy Krukowski, Manager of Western Maintenance, phone 508-424-3651. b. The Contractor shall provide all required bolts, gaskets, insulating washers and sleeves, and materials required to install the valve and ensure compatibility with adjacent flange pipe. 7. Furnishing and installing by open-cut: a. 2,168 feet of 60-inch steel water main, three (3) butterfly valves, meter 202, and appurtenances on Section W10. Approximate limits from the intersection of Linden Street and Waverley Oaks Road to the intersection of Beaver Street and Waverley Oaks Road in Waltham, MA. b. 19 feet of 60-inch steel water main, blow-off, and access manhole on Section W10 within Sun Street, Waltham, MA. c. 28 feet of 60-inch steel water main, butterfly valve, blow-off, and access manhole on Section W10 within Felton Street, Waltham, MA. d. Meter 152 and appurtenances on Section W11. e. Replacement of ductile iron water mains and gate valves in Waltham and Belmont as indicated on the Drawings. f. Replacement of drain lines, drain manhole and catch basin structures in Waltham as indicated on the Drawings. g. Replacement of sanitary sewer lines and manhole structures in Waltham as indicated on the Drawings. h. Access pits to allow for the cleaning and lining activities. i. Access manholes to allow for structural lining activities and future inspection as indicated on the Drawings. 8. Replacement of Meter 202 in Waltham with a new venturi meter, valves, equipment, vaults, electrical cabinet, electrical duct bank, and electrical service connection. 9. Replacement of Meter 152 in Belmont that services Arlington, with a new venturi meter, valves, equipment, vaults, electrical cabinet, electrical duct bank, and electrical service connection. 10. Replacement of Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) vault downstream of Meter 152 in Belmont servicing Arlington. 11. Furnishing and installing valves, precast valve vaults, air valves, blow-off assemblies, manholes and all appurtenant work. 12. Removal, handling, transportation and disposal of rock, contaminated soil and groundwater along the pipeline routes. 13. Removal, handling, transportation of existing 60-inch steel pipe Section W10. 14. Abandonment of portions of the existing 60-inch steel pipe Section W10 as indicated on the Drawings. 15. Restoration of all disturbed areas and utilities impacted by the work, including pavement, curb, fencing, retaining walls, and sidewalks. 16. Initial dewatering of the existing water mains; filling, pressure/leakage testing and disinfection; dechlorination and flushing, and filling of all water mains Sections as indicated on the Drawings. 17. Removal, handling, transportation and disposal of trees, shrubs, and stumps as indicated on Drawings. 18. Furnish and planting of trees and shrubs as indicated on Drawings.
