Renovation and addition to a mixed-use development in Athens, Georgia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 7,900-square-foot laboratory facility; educational facility; and for the addition of a 1,000-square-foot, one-story above grade laboratory facility.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia as Owner, on behalf of the University of Georgia, User is soliciting Statements of Qualifications from firms interested in providing construction management at-risk services for the construction of a project known as "Cedar Street Building B, South Wing 2nd Floor Renovation" at the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia. Project Background: The University of Georgia (UGA), College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES), has requested renovations of approximately 7,900 sf within the South Wing 2nd Floor of Building #1000, Cedar Street Building B (CSBB). This addition was constructed during the 1970s and no major renovations have occurred within the existing research spaces on this floor since its initial construction and significant renovation will be required to support modern research lab requirements. Specific to Synthetic Biology and Crop Design, CAES envisions this renovation to support advanced modeling to explore the role of multiple, interacting genes in agricultural systems, working from DNA to molecules to entire productions systems. CAES supports the recent recruitment of eminent scholar along with continuing cohort recruitment of additional faculty members to establish a center of excellence in the application of genomic tools for crop improvement." This renovation shall support the strategic plan of elevating CAES in national rankings by integrating synthetic biology with crop development, recruiting new faculty into this area and developing student training programs. The crop design program is expected to increase CAES enrollment by attracting new undergraduate and graduate students into agricultures remarkable intersection of synthetic biology, artificial intelligence and plant breeding. This project also assists in additional advancements in UGAs growing research enterprise. Project Description The project will renovate approximately 7,900 sf and will maintain the existing corridors, and the space program for the project is anticipated to include: An approximate 1,100 sf biology research lab with an associated cell culture lab and growth room . An existing autoclave room . equipment storage . 3-station microscopy room . Offices with student write-up stations . 1,000 SF open research lab for an (as of time of submittal) unassigned PI with associated equipment storage .Support spaces including: A new data/communications room that will serve all three floors of the south wing . A reconfigured custodial closet . Reconfigured restrooms to meet ADA . New switchback ramp to provide ADA compliance due to the floor level change shortly after entry. A significant focus of the renovation is replacement of aged infrastructure and building systems serving the floor, including significant mechanical, electrical, plumbing improvements, fire sprinkler, fire alarm, data communications, security upgrades, and finishes throughout. The project will also include new lab casework and fume hoods.
