The City of Morganton invites engineering firms to submit qualifications to provide professional design and construction administration/management services for the Rocky Ford Greenway rebuild and bank stabilization. In the fall of 2024, the City of Morganton was hit hard by Hurricane Helene, with substantial damage to several parks. The greenway section at Rocky Ford was washed out and we now have about 700ft of runoff/washout that needs to be repaired/replaced. The Morganton Greenway system started in 1993 and currently runs for about 4 miles along the Catawba River, and is one of the most important amenities to the City of Morganton and its residents. The rebuild will consist of repairing damage to our greenway, and work to the stream bank to provide resiliency in the future. There are currently about 700 linear feet of stream bank that has been washed out and compromised our paved greenway. The stream continues to slowly undermine the paved section of greenway and has made it unsafe even for pedestrians. The project should focus on building back and stabilizing the stream bank, and repairs to the paved greenway section. We would also be open to alternative options that could improve the area and limit any damage from future storms. The City of Morganton will expect the selected engineering firm to provide the following services needed to repair the damaged area for a Design Bid project: Survey of existing features and topographical survey within the project site including location of existing sanitary sewer outfall.
