GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK The Lick Observatory is a multi-campus research unit located on top of Mount Hamilton in East San Jose and owned and operated by the University of California. The University of California Santa Cruz actively manages the site with support from Lick Observatory staff. Driving time from San Jose to the facility via Mt. Hamilton Road is about one hour. The facility consists of multiple telescopes along with adjacent structures and outbuildings. In 2020 SCU Lightning Complex fire impacted the facility and burned or damaged several of the support buildings at the facility. As part of ongoing site rehabilitation efforts, a trailhead style restroom building is intended to be constructed at the greater Lick Observatory site. additional pre bid meeting note: For further information, contact the University's Representative, Christian Harris at 831 889-8122. This scope of work prepares Construction Documents for permitting and construction purposes for a proposed restroom building including utility connections and associated accessible parking subject to basis of design bridging documents including schematic plans and outline specifications. Construction of the restroom building and adjacent accessible parking will include utility connections and all elements of the approved Construction Documents. Project intended to be designed and constructed by Design Build entity. Prospective proposers desiring to be prequalified are informed that they will be subject to and must fully comply with all of the proposal conditions including 100% payment and 100% performance bonds. Proposal Security in the amount of 10% of the lump sum price proposal, excluding alternates, shall accompany each proposal. The surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the proposal deadline, listed in the latest published State of California, Department of Insurance, list of "Insurers Admitted to Transact Surety Insurance in this State."
