Site work for a water / sewer project in Farmington, New Mexico. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

In researching the feasibility of the dam raise study, the engineer discovered Farmington Dam's extreme flood hydrology using the new Colorado-New Mexico Regional Extreme Precipitation Study (REPS) which revealed a 5 feet of freeboard. Therefore, the City of Farmington can raise the spillway 5-feet to gain an additional 1,150 ac-ft (15% capacity increase) of storage without raising the dam. Currently, the City has a 30% design and cost estimate for a labyrinth spillway. The request for $3 million is to finalize design, construct a labyrinth spillway, grout the spillway foundation, construct embankment near the spillway to contain the raised reservoir pool and modify the existing inflow sediment basins. The project is included in the City's 2027-2031 Infrastructure Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of December 17, 2025, project is funded for FY2027. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly.
