Renovation of a swimming pool in Farmington, New Mexico. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a swimming pool.
The Farmington Aquatic Center, constructed in April of 1994, is a vital community asset serving the City of Farmington and the greater San Juan County region. This multi-functional facility features a 50-meter Olympic-sized swimming pool equipped with high and low diving boards, a150-foot water slide, and a leisure and playground pool. Since its inception, the aquatic center has played a critical role in promoting public health, water safety, and recreation for individuals of all ages. Now in more than 30 years of operation, the facility is showing significant signs of wear and requires essential capital improvements to maintain safety, functionality, and energy efficiency. The scope of needed renovations includes: • Replastering of the 50 meter and leisure pool to ensure swimmer safety and water integrity • Complete replacement of deteriorating pipes and valves throughout the facility • Replacement of the Kalwall translucent window panel above the pool to restore proper lighting and thermal performance • Upgrading all electrical system including outlets, panels, and wiring in both the main building and pump rooms • Replacement of existing fire alarm devices and fire protection sprinklers to ensure compliance with current fire codes • Removal and replacement of aging galvanized conduit to improve electrical system reliability, and replacement of outdated pool heaters to enhance energy efficiency and reduce operating costs. • HVAC system replacement • Renovation and replacement of the pool disinfection system, including the high-rate sand filtration system • Replacement of boiler systems for both pool and domestic hot water • Upgrade and replacement of the Colorado Time System to include deck plug-in units as well as wall plug in units • Replacement and modernization of the underwater lighting system These critical upgrades will extend the life of the facility, improve safety for users and staff, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and allow the center to continue serving as a year-round hub for recreation, education, and public wellness. Investment in this project supports Farmington’s long-term goals for community development, youth engagement, and regional partnerships. The project is included in the City's 2027-2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of December 18, 2025, project is funded for construction in FY2027. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
