The Trump administration is planning to build seven large-scale immigration detention centers in industrial warehouses across the country, including one in Hammond, Louisiana. The Hammond facility would house approximately 9,000 detainees and serve as a staging ground for deportation. The warehouses will be modified to include housing units with showers and restrooms, a medical unit, and a kitchen. A draft solicitation for contractors has been reviewed, but details such as site location and construction timeline remain unclear. As of May 5, 2026, this is a proposed project. The city has denied any firm plans for an immigration detention facility in the area.
