Site work for a water / sewer project in Santa Cruz, California. Completed plans call for site work for a 17,500-square-foot water / sewer project.
The City of Santa Cruz Water Department intends to convert its existing production well, Beltz 9, to an aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) well. The City seeks proposals from qualified engineering firms to provide design engineering services, including developing construction plans, specifications, and bid documents for demolishing and/or retrofitting the existing discharge and facility piping, mechanical and electrical components and equipment, controls and SCADA integration, and associated appurtenances of the permanent ASR well facilities in accordance with City guidelines. The design must consider best practices for converting a production well to ASR use, accommodate future expansion of the City’s ASR program, and allow for joint operation with existing and future ASR wells. The City will provide supplementary documents to proposers under a non-disclosure agreement. A new site survey will be necessary as existing record drawings may be outdated. Bidders must review supplementary documents for further project background and information. Project Objectives The City's objectives for this project are: o Design, construct, and integrate permanent ASR Facilities at Beltz 9. The design is expected to be similar to the pilot testing setup using as much of the existing facility infrastructure as possible. Please see page 101 of the Appendix C.2 PDF for the pilot testing setup. The City's goal is to have minimal infrastructure improvements in an effort to limit construction cost and schedule. o Design a project that can be constructed with limited shutdown windows. Keep the Beltz 9 and BWTP facility operational throughout construction. o Design Beltz 9 with consideration for other Beltz well sites. Coordinate with the City to incorporate needs from other projects to ensure the ASR design is compatible with projects at other facilities. o Develop an operation strategy for the Beltz 9 ASR facility. o Develop a 10% design of a sanitary sewer and a storm drain connection for Beltz 9 to facilitate conversations with the County for a future project. o Determine whether electrical upgrades are needed for the hydrogeologist's recommended maximum pumping capacity for Beltz 9 ASR well, and the associated impacts on the project cost and schedule. 3.2. Design Considerations Components of the existing facility include the following: (1) a pump control cabinet; (2) a 240-foot-deep well that has a 14-inch outside diameter stainless steel casing and screen, 60-HP submersible pump used during pilot testing, injection orifice tubes used during pilot testing, concrete pedestal, and well head station piping; and (3) a raw water pipeline that conveys water to the Beltz Water Treatment Plant located at the Beltz 8 well site. The raw water pipeline is fed by three wells - Beltz Wells 8, 9, and 10. The raw water pipeline is connected to the treatment plant Filter Reclaim Tank that can be drained to the Sanitary Sewer. The raw water pipeline also has a storm drain blow-off located at the Beltz 1 & 2 site. There is no storm drain or sanitary sewer connection at the Beltz 9 site. The City has a consultantdeveloped Applied Flow Technology model for this pipeline, which may need to be revisited if a new pump is designed.
