The City of Batavia is seeking a single contractor for code compliance lawn mowing services to perform nuisance lawn mowing abatements at residential and commercial properties for the 2026 growing season. The abatement involves mowing grass and weeds over 8 inches in height on properties identified by the Code Compliance Division, on a per site authorization basis. The work includes mowing all established grass and vegetation (excluding shrubs, trees, heavily wooded areas, and reasonably maintained garden areas) and may involve handling extremely long grass/weeds, mowing ungraded lots or steep slopes, and mowing in and around structures, walks, trees, and fences. The contractor is required to provide before and after photos, complete jobs within 4 days of notification (weather permitting), receive requests via e-mail, provide itemized billing, and remove trash and debris from the mowing area. Disposal costs may be separately itemized. Sidewalks, alleyways, or adjacent public rights of way must be cleared of clippings following mowing. The contractor must possess the proper equipment, personnel, and skills, and be able to navigate through fence openings of a minimum of 30 inches. Bidders must submit rates for quarter-acre, half-acre, and one-acre properties, as well as for properties where grass exceeds 3 feet in height. Required documentation includes certificates of liability and automobile/mowing equipment insurance naming the City as additional insured, a written summary of company qualifications and experience, references, specification of staff involved, and confirmation of no conflict of interest. Two copies of the proposal must be submitted in a sealed envelope by the specified deadline; faxed or emailed proposals will not be accepted. The City reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and will consider quality, thoroughness, demonstrated capability, experience, and cost in the selection process. The contract term is seven months with possible extensions up to three years.
