Stabilization and weatherization repairs to historic Christ Episcopal Church in Mount Pleasant. Project is funded in part by a grant from SC Dept. of Archives & History. The project will encompass the exterior restoration and renovation of an existing structure known as the Christ Episcopal Church located at 2304 N Hwy 17 in Mt. Pleasant, SC. 2. The historic Christ Episcopal Church is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The church was one of ten churches established in South Carolina under the Church Act of 1706, an act of the British Parliament. The current sanctuary dates to 1726 The scope of work for this project includes, but is not limited to: a. Crawlspace repairs and upgrades b. Restoration of the building exterior c. Replacement of the roof d. Replacement of two windows in the addition (ca. 1961) e. Restoration of exterior stucco and application of vapor permeable barrier f. Repair and repainting of interior plaster g. Caulk shut meeting rails of all historic windows in sanctuary h. Removal of existing batt insulation in sanctuary attic and replacement with rockwool insulation i. Alternate #1: Remove existing gutter on west end of addition (approx. 8 linear feet of gutter). Install 6" half-round copper gutter and 4" round downspouts around building perimeter, as well as all applicable accessories. j. Alternate #2: Install UL-certified lightning protection system.
