1. This work shall consist of minimizing the exposure of the environment, including Waters of the State as defined by Title 126, Chapter 1 from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE), to hazardous materials. This specification also includes the requirements for clean-up of releases (spills) of hazardous materials. 2. NDOT defines hazardous materials as a broad category of materials that, because of their quantity, concentration, physical or chemical characteristics, pose a potential hazard to human health and safety or to the environment if released into the environment. Hazardous materials include, but are not limited to, materials that are regulated as solid waste, hazardous waste, and other wastes contaminated with hazardous substances, radioactive materials, petroleum products, toxic substances, and other pollutants.
