(KJCT) -Renovation construction for District 51’s oldest school building officially broke ground. Grand Junction’s Central High School held a ceremony Thursday morning to celebrate the school’s newest milestone, which the school said will usher in renovations that will uphold a “safe, modern, and future-focused learning environment for students.” “Ground break is an exciting opportunity for not only our students but our community,” said Central High School Principal Zeb Hayward on the ceremony. “I think the investment in our school and our students is even more compounded in this event today.” The renovations are part of a 2024 bond initiative passed by voters— which the school said will be used for significant upgrades to the campus, improved learning spaces, enhanced safety and security features and modernized facilities that will better support students and facility for the future. “This is something that’s been long in the process,” Hayward said. “To be able to actually see the work— something tangible in our dollars is, I think, really impactful to our community.” “Having our parents trust to send their kids to school on a day-to-day basis, we need to be able to make sure that we’re stewards of that,” Hayward continued. “That we’re really caring for their kids.
