Site work and new construction of a municipal facility in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Working plans call for the construction of a 5,000-square-foot municipal facility.
The upgraded complex on Frenchtown Road would include a larger maintenance garage with indoor vehicle storage, lifts, and equipment, along with a new salt shed. Public Works Director Fred Gomes told council members the existing 5,000 square-foot garage is severely undersized and outdated. The total working yard currently spans about 36,000 square feet, while a needs analysis concluded the town requires roughly 78,000 square feet to operate a modern facility. Inside the existing garage, he described how three full-time mechanics work in tight quarters alongside welding equipment, conducting tire changes and brake jobs to town vehicles, and even a small wood shop used to replace storm damaged mailboxes.
