The La Plata High School renovation and expansion project involves significant upgrades to the original 1979 building and the construction of a new two-story addition on the southeast side. The redesign relocates the main entrance to the southeast facade, improves school access, and includes a secure vestibule. The new addition will feature a wide corridor connecting the existing building, with art classrooms on the first floor, science labs, and a special education suite on the second floor. Three new courtyards will provide natural light and outdoor spaces. Renovations will vary in different areas, including full reconfiguration, upgrades to finishes and fixtures, expansion of the Student Dining Area with improved accessibility and lighting, and enlargement of the Media Center. Egress improvements include a new stair tower and expanded stairwells. Classroom wings will be reconfigured, and specialty spaces such as choral and band rooms, gymnasium, auditorium, and kitchen will receive targeted updates. Additional facilities for the theater program like a drama classroom and storage areas are included. All bidders must obtain contract documents from the Construction Manager and must be prequalified through TradeTapp. Bids require a 5% bid bond or certified check, and prevailing wage rates apply. Certified Minority Business Enterprises are encouraged to participate, and MBE participation requirements apply to each Trade Package. Required MBE documentation must be submitted with bids, and failure to do so may result in a bid being deemed non-responsive. No bid withdrawals are allowed within 90 days of opening. Bids may be rejected or accepted at the discretion of the owner. Pre-qualification requirements: All bidders must be prequalified through TradeTapp prior to bid submission. Firms not prequalified may be deemed non-responsive. MBE participation must be performed by firms certified by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) at the time of bid submission. Completion of the MBE Utilization and Fair Solicitation Affidavit and MBE Participation Schedule is required with each bid. Each subcontractor must meet the MBE goal for its Trade Package or document good faith efforts as specified in the contract documents. A certified check, bank draft, or a bid bond equal to 5% of the base bid must be submitted with the bid. MBE documentation is required at the time of bid.
