Site work and renovation of a water / sewer project in Long Beach, California. Completed plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project; and for site work for a water / sewer project.

The work includes the rehabilitation of two water tanks, including coating, interior repairs, roof hatch replacement, safety railings, inlet/outlet and overflow improvements, drain replacement, new nozzles, and cathodic protection replacement. Email to peter.nguyen@lbwater.org and cc to kian.nejad@lbwater.org 6003010017 WD-01-25 DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Work involves furnishing all labor, equipment and materials necessary to: o Remove interior coating and apply new coating of the tank wall shell and floor, repaint exterior surfaces of tank wall shell; o Removal and replacement of roofing material and flashing, repair roof sheathing; o Repaint wood trim at ventilation openings at roof tiers, o Remove and replace existing roof hatches and curbs; o Install a new roof opening and roof hatch/curb and at each tank with new safety guardrailing around the new roof opening; o Remove and replace existing fall restraint system with new o Remove existing galvanized steel fall projection rail at existing tank ladders and replace with new stainless steel safety rail; o Provide new ladder and fall protection rail at new roof openings; o Strengthen/repair base angle at Tank 11; o Rehabilitate existing Tank 11 inlet and outlet assemblies o Remove and replace existing Tank 13 inlet and outlet assemblies with new, housed in a new buried concrete vault; o Remove and replace existing tank overflow assemblies with new reconfigured overflows assemblies; o Remove and replace existing tank drain assemblies; o Remove and replace existing 6-inch and 3/4 " tank nozzle assemblies; o Removal and replacement of the existing cathodic protection system with new. Summary of Work, location, Work sequence, closeout, Contractor use of premises, and activities by others at Project site. B. Furnish all labor, materials, equipment, products, tools, transportation, services, and means to construct the project entitled ALAMITOS TANKS NO. 11 & 13 REHABILITATION PROJECT, as described in the contract documents. A summary of the work items is listed below for informational purposes only. The full scope of work is not limited to these items and shall include all work described in the contract documents: 1. Mobilization/Demobilization 2. Excavation Safety Measures 3. Sitework 3.1 (Tank 11 and 13) Removal and restoration in-kind of sitework paving affected by piping improvements/modifications 3.2 (Tank 13) Excavation and placement of backfill and recompaction for new piping/valve vaults 4. Tank Roof Structures 4.1 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove Existing Roof Hatch and Replace with New 4.2 (Tank 11 and 13) New Roof Opening and New Roof Hatch - Perform roof framing modifications for new opening and provide new roof hatch 4.3 (Tank 11 and 13) Install New Guardrailing around new roof opening 4.4 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove and replace portions of existing roof sheathing in-kind where damaged, deteriorated or holes occur, exposing the interior. 4.5 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove existing roofing and replace with new after all other improvements to the roof structure have been completed. 5. (Tank 11) Rehabilitate Repair/Strengthen Existing Wall Base Angle 6. Tank Piping and Appurtenances 6.1 Inlet and Outlet Vault Assembly Replacements 6.1.1 (Tank 13) Abandon and Demolish Portions of Existing Inlet and Outlet Piping and Valve Vault 6.1.2 (Tank 13) Inlet and Outlet Piping and Valve Replacements - Replace existing piping and valves and replace with new reconfigured inlet and outlet piping and valves. 6.1.3 (Tank 11 and 13) Test existing coating on inlet piping and valve assembly and provide new coating system. 6.1.4 (Tank 11) Provide new flange type pipe supports for inlet piping assembly. 6.1.5 (Tank 13) Demolish existing inlet piping vault and provide new inlet piping pre-cast vault with cast-in-place floor slab and removable lid. 6.1.6 (Tank 13) Furnish and install new butterfly valve and flexible coupling assembly on inlet piping 6.1.7 (Tank 13) Furnish and install new electric motor sump pump in inlet vault with discharge force main to drain 6.1.8 (Tank 11 and 13) Clean and disinfect both 24" inlet piping and existing 24" pipe sections taken out of service for new connections. 6.2 Outlet Piping, Valves, and Appurtenances 6.2.1 (Tank 11) Furnish and install flexible coupling assembly on outlet piping penetrating through shell. 6.2.2 (Tank 11) Remove existing coating on outlet piping and valve assembly to remain and provide new coating system. 6.2.3 (Tank 11) Furnish and install new 3" gate valve, 3" ball valve, and blind flange on outlet piping assembly. 6.2.4 (Tank 13) Demolish existing outlet piping vault and provide new outlet piping pre-cast vault with cast-in-place floor slab and removable lid. 6.2.5 (Tank 13) Furnish and install new butterfly valve and flexible coupling assembly on outlet piping. 6.2.6 (Tank 13) Furnish and install new electric motor sump pump in outlet vault with discharge force main to drain. 6.2.7 (Tank 11 and 13) Clean and disinfect both 24" outlet piping and existing 24" pipe sections taken out of service for new connections. 6.2.8 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove existing frames and screening on the outlet pipes and furnish and install new frames and screening in like-kind. 6.3 Drain Valve Vault 6.3.1 (Tank 11 and 13) Install cast-in-place vault around valve for drain line. 6.3.2 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove existing drain valve and furnish and install a new drain valve. 6.3.3 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove the existing drain vault and replace with new drain vault with diamond plate cover. 6.3.4 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove existing frames and screening on the drain pipes and furnish and install new frames and screening in like-kind. 6.4 Overflow and Weir 6.4.1 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove existing overflow pipe and weir and install new overflow, weir, and air-break including installation of additional pipe and braces as needed. 6.5 Tank Nozzles 6.5.1 (Tank 11 and 13) Furnish and install elbows on the interior of all tank nozzles. 6.5.2 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove existing nozzle valves and furnish and install new gate valves and blind flanges. 6.6 (Tank 11 and 13) Tank Level Indicator - Remove and dispose of existing liquid level indicator equipment and furnish and install a new liquid level indicator assembly and gauge board. 6.7 (Tank 11 and 13) Sample Tap Assemblies 6.9 (Tank 11 and 13) Tank Manway - Recoat the entire manway assembly with the either fusion-bonded or liquid epoxy similar to the coating recommended for the inlet and outlet piping assemblies. 6.10 (Tank 11 and 13) Unistrut Brackets - Install Unistrut brackets to outside face of tank wall at roof hatch. Space brackets vertically along wall height and attach as specified on the drawings. 7. Interior Tank Coatings 7.1 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove all interior coatings on all interior steel surfaces including, but not limited to, shell, bottom, columns, girders, tension rods, piping, top angle, painter's trolley, and appurtenances by abrasive blast cleaning to SSPCSP10. 7.2 (Tank 11 and 13) Apply a three-coat epoxy coating system to all interior steel surfaces above the bottom noted above. 7.3 (Tank 11 and 13) Electrically detect epoxy coating system noted above, and repair as required. 7.4 (Tank 11 and 13) Apply a 100% solids epoxy coating system to all interior bottom surfaces and lower 2 feet of the shell and columns. 7.5 (Tank 11 and 13) Electrically detect 100% solids epoxy coating system noted above, and repair as required. 7.6 (Tank 11 and 13) Cure interior epoxy coating as specified herein. 7.7 (Tank 11 and 13) Apply a flexible sealant to inaccessible voids at the column bases, columns, shell lap joints, and voids designated by the Engineer. 7.8 (Tank 11 and 13) Test, handle, and dispose of coating wastes in conformance to all regulations. 8. (Tank 11 and 13) Caulking 9. (Tank 11 and 13) Interior Tank Disinfection - Wash down interior surfaces and disinfect complete interior. 10. Exterior Tank Painting 10.1 (Tank 11 and 13) Exterior surfaces damaged by structural modifications, new appurtenances, piping, and corroded rivets along lower portion of exterior shell shall receive surface preparation as outlined in Section 09 97 13. 10.2 (Tank 11 and 13) Apply specified primer to all prepared surfaces noted above. 10.3 (Tank 11 and 13) Apply intermediate and finish coats of paint to prepared areas including piping and appurtenances. 10.4 (Tank 11 and 13) Test, handle, and dispose of hazardous and nonhazardous wastes generated from exterior painting operations in conformance to all regulations. 10.5 (Tank 11 and 13) Inspect Existing Guardrails and Catwalks for Corrosion; Clean and Paint Corroded Areas (where occurs) 11. Tank Ladders 11.1 (Tank 11 and 13) Provide new fiberglass ladder and stainless steel safety rail at new roof hatches 11.2 (Tank 11 and 13) Remove galvanized steel safety rail and existing roof hatches and replace with new stainless steel safety rail 12. (Tank 11 and 13) Cathodic Protection System - Remove existing cathodic protection system including wires, cables, fittings, and components prior to roofing removal and furnish and install new cathodic protection system upon completion of new roofing installation. 13. (Tank 11 and 13) Remove existing fall restraint system prior to removal of existing roof and install new after installation of new roofing. 14. (Optional Item) Testing - Furnish all labor, materials, and equipment to have an LBUD approved lab collect samples and perform lab analysis. Testing shall include 1 VOC and 2 Bac-T tests. 15. (Optional Item) Dehumidification - If determined necessary by the Utilities Department, furnish all labor, materials, and equipment to provide dehumidification for all interior coating work, including curing of the coatings. 16. (Optional Item) Fill/Weld Pits - Furnish all labor, materials, and equipment to fill pits or weld plates over pitted areas. 17. (Optional Item) Inspection Blasting - As directed by the Engineer, furnish all labor, materials, and equipment to abrasively blast clean five 10' x 10' areas on the interior steel surfaces to an SSPC-SP10 and allow blasted areas to sit overnight. Allow the Engineer the next day to perform chloride testing on the steel surfaces. 18. (Optional Item) Interior Blasting (Shell and Columns) - Furnish all labor, materials, and equipment to prepare all interior steel surfaces to an SSPC-SP5 after all interior steel surfaces have been blasted to SSPC-SP10, as directed by the Engineer. 19. (Optional Item) Interior Blasting (Bottom and Column Bases) - Furnish all labor, materials, and equipment to prepare all interior steel surfaces to an SSPC-SP5 after all interior steel surfaces have been blasted to SSPC-SP10, as directed by the Engineer. 20. (Optional Item) Field Allowance - Allowance for Owner to reimburse Contractor for field orders. C. Contractor's submission of bid shall constitute acknowledgment that, if awarded contract, they have relied upon and are relying upon their own examination of (a) the Work site, (b) access to Work site, (c) conditions under which Work is to be performed and (d) all other data and matters requisite to fulfillment of Work and on their knowledge of existing facilities on and near Work site.
