Renovation of a detention facility in Honolulu, Hawaii. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a detention facility.
New addressable automatic and manual fire alarm system for the entire building, including detailed shop drawings prepared as a delegated-design submittal and sealed by a qualified design professional. The system includes a voice evacuation system and smoke control system, firefighter two-way communication throughout required locations, and radio signal strength testing in accordance with IFC510. Wiring must meet Level 3 Pathway Survivability for required circuits, with all other wiring meeting Level 1. A new UL-listed central monitoring and control workstation will be installed in the Control Room as the on-premise proprietary monitoring station. Select floors will receive Fire Alarm Control Units, remote booster power supplies, notification appliance circuit equipment, and voice evacuation amplifiers. All floors above Level 2 will have remote annunciators. The new fire alarm network, including voice evacuation and firefighter communication, will be installed as a copper-based Class X system. Initiating circuits will be Class A, notification circuits Class B, and all areas will receive complete notification appliance coverage. Mechanical units, smoke dampers, fire/smoke dampers, and related HVAC components will be interfaced with the fire alarm system for smoke control and fan shutdown. Existing smoke control wiring and operations must be verified prior to demolition, and new actuators, firestats, and relays will be installed with new wiring. Fire sprinkler riser flow and tamper switches, Post Indicator Valves around the exterior, kitchen fire suppression systems, and other suppression systems will be integrated with the new fire alarm system. Work includes programming, configuration, testing, inspection, and commissioning of all devices and equipment, along with installation of new 20A, 120V circuits to supply required equipment on each floor. Cutting and patching of ceilings and walls will be required due to congested ceiling spaces, and hazardous materials such as lead-based paint and asbestos must be avoided or mitigated where disturbance is necessary. CMU and concrete walls will require core drilling for conduit installation. Contractor-supplied design professional certifications and updated electronic CAD files will be required upon project completion. Location: Federal Detention Center Honolulu, 351 Elliott Street, Honolulu, HI 96819 Pursuant to Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Deviation 36.101-3, the estimated magnitude of this project is between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000.
