The work consists of coating the spillway gate machinery at all twelve gates with a single, consistent coating system. The contractor shall remove all coatings that are not tightly adhered to the steel substrate, repair existing corrosion, and restore the final surface to like-new condition. Surface preparation shall be performed using power shrouded tools with vacuum collection to meet SSPC-SP-3 Power Tool Cleaning requirements and all lead collection and disposal requirements; where SSPC-SP-3 is not physically possible, SSPC-SP-1 and the specified coating system shall still be performed. Active machinery components such as motors, gearboxes, bearings, and similar equipment shall not be disassembled. Machinery covers, guards, and other non-active components may be removed as necessary to achieve maximum coating coverage. The contractor may use the project intake gantry crane and spillway maintenance platform, shall coordinate with project staff for bulkhead placement to allow gate access, and shall ensure that no more than three gates are out of service at any time. The Corps must retain continuous access to the intake crane for maintenance and emergency use. All work shall comply with EM 385-1-1 and all applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. Location: Barkley Dam Spillway, Cumberland River, Grand Rivers, Kentucky.
