Site work for a water / sewer project in Newport, Rhode Island. Working plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
Repair and replacement of the southern portion of Bulkhead S50 and associated stormwater system infrastructure at Naval Station Newport to protect embankments and shore facilities from erosion and wave action. The work includes replacement of approximately 686 linear feet of deteriorated steel sheet-pile bulkhead with a new steel sheet-pile system incorporating a wale system and sheet-pile deadman anchor, all coated with macro epoxy for corrosion protection, and replacement in kind of approximately 193 linear feet of rip-rap to maintain shoreline stability. The project must comply with all requirements of the applicable EPA Record of Decision for the CERCLA/IR Superfund Site, Site 19, and the Federal Facility Compliance Agreement between the Navy and the EPA. An optional scope includes demolition of the T-Pier (Facility S528), consisting of removal and disposal of the concrete slab, excavation and disposal of soil and fill within the structure, dredging and disposal of sediment and fill below the waterline, cutting and disposal of steel sheet-pile bulkheads and structural supports two feet below the mudline, and removal of associated waterfront infrastructure such as mooring dolphins, steel piles, and utilities. The magnitude of construction is anticipated to be between $25 million and $100 million, with an estimated period of performance of approximately 610 calendar days.
