Dakota County Greenways is improving the trail user experience between CSAH 42 and USACE Lock and Dam #2 by replacing existing trail pavement, reducing trail slope and curvature, and reconstructing the trail to meet current standards. The project includes reclaiming the first 900 ft of the existing trail from CSAH 42, followed by realignment and vertical profile adjustment of 1500 ft of trail. The existing overlook pavement will be removed and replaced with soil and seeding, and a shortened overlook trail will be constructed, with existing benches and picnic tables salvaged and placed at the end. Due to significant trail lowering, construction of a proposed retaining wall adjacent to the existing retaining wall is required. Final activities include seeding, shrub, and tree planting throughout the construction area. Site access will be from CSAH 42.
