The scope of work at Fire Station 5 consists of removal of the existing stairs in their entirety from the basement level to the first floor and from the first floor to the second floor. The proposed stairs will consist of hardwood treads and hardwood risers with guardrails with handrails. The project also includes the addition of new doors at the top of the stairs on the first floor and second floor. Each bidder must accompany its bid with a bid security as assurance that the successful bidder will enter into a contract for the work and will furnish, after the award of contract, a corporate surety bond for the faithful performance of the contract in an amount equal to one hundred percent of the contract amount. The bid security must be in the amount of ten percent of the contract amount and may be in the form of a cashier's check, certified check, or bid bond with corporate surety. No conditions are allowed on the bid bond except as specified. Bidders should not include State of Iowa sales tax in their bid; a sales tax exemption certificate will be provided for all material purchased in Iowa for incorporation into the project. Preference will be given to Iowa products, provisions, and domestic labor as required by Iowa statutes. Contract documents are available at the Engineering Department, City Hall, or on the City's website. Minority business enterprises are encouraged to submit bids and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. Bidders must submit questions about the Contract Documents to the Engineer in writing or by email only.
