Site work and new construction of a military facility in Raleigh, North Carolina. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a military facility; and for site work for a military facility.

The work consists of constructing a new Plant Improvement Facility to support field-focused research programs, including a laboratory, office, and seed processing building, along with headhouse and greenhouse facilities. The project will be developed on approximately 12.5 acres of property leased by the USDA Agricultural Research Service on the grounds of the North Carolina State University campus. Site improvements include construction of parking lots, roads, and utilities extended to within five feet of the buildings. The primary laboratory, office, and seed processing facility will be approximately 45,000 square feet, with an additional 6,500 square feet of greenhouse and headhouse space across two facilities, and an optional 6,000 square foot equipment storage and shop building. The main research and processing building will be a single-story, pre-engineered metal building with a steel frame, insulated girts and purlins, box-corrugated metal wall cladding, and a standing seam metal roof. Supporting structures, including the well house, headhouse, and pump house, will be constructed of CMU with CMU veneer and low-slope PVC roofing. The facility layout is organized to separate office and research spaces from processing areas, provide efficient process flow from delivery through clean processing, and visually screen site activities from surrounding roadways. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and telecommunications systems will be routed overhead through a breezeway plenum and distributed to each building wing. The headhouse will include a grow room, and an evaporatively cooled greenhouse divided into three compartments will be located south of the headhouse and connected by a covered breezeway. In accordance with DFARS 236.204(i) the magnitude of construction for this project will be between $25,000,000.00 and $35,000,000.00.
