The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking proposals from qualified architectural and engineering firms for the replacement and upgrade of housing unit door controls at the Baraga Correctional Facility. The scope includes a complete review and familiarization with the existing controls for cell doors and unit entry/egress doors in Housing Units 1-8. The current system of toggles, push buttons, and relays has exceeded its useful design life and maintenance is difficult due to parts availability. The new system must match or exceed the existing systems reliability, simplicity, longevity, and maintainability, but does not require new touch-screen capability. The evaluation covers all system components and functions from each unit bubble (monitoring and operating location) to each operable/functional door, including anything that needs replacement and controls that report to the unit bubble and may also signal through connections to the facility control center and controls/alerts (e.g. health care emergency lights and audibles). Work will occur within the secure perimeter of the correctional facility and requires coordination with custody staff, security clearances, DOC orientation, and compliance with facility protocols.
