Upgrades to the Carbon Dioxide Systems, including the removal and disposal of four vaporizers, associated control panels, CO2 piping, accessories, concrete pads and curbing and the installation of two new vaporizers, control panels, CO2 piping and accessories on a new concrete pad. Description of the Existing Carbon Dioxide Vaporizer System: Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is used to adjust the pH of the treated water, added as one of eight chemicals in the treatment process. There are two CO2 storage tanks outside the Post Treatment (PT) building. Electric pressure building vaporizers are used to convert liquid CO2 into gaseous CO2. There are four CO2 vaporizers mounted on skids in the Vaporizer Room in the PT building. The existing liquid and gaseous CO2 piping between the storage tanks and the vaporizers is schedule 80 seamless black carbon steel with 2-inches of insulation. The liquid piping within the pipe chase in the PT building is uninsulated. The existing liquid piping in the pipe chase is iced over and has displaced a block in the CMU (concrete masonry unit) chase wall in Stair #2 under the first landing. Water staining and organic growth are visible on the adjacent wall in the electric room . The existing CO2 vaporization process is operated via local control panels based on pressure readings in the storage tanks. The CO2 dose and injection are controlled by the JJCWTP SCADA system and shall not be impacted from construction activities.
