Renovation of a residential development in Fairhope, Alabama. Completed plans call for the renovation of a residential development.
The City of Fairhope is requesting responses to relocate the Henry Stuart House from its present location at 22787 US Highway 98, Fairhope, AL 36532 to Flying Creek Nature Preserve (a City Public Park) at 22430 Main Street, Fairhope, AL 36532. This qualified local General Contractor led project involves all necessary site (existing and proposed) preparation work, the engagement of a qualified “House Mover” subcontractor, to lift (intact) a circular masonry structure, successfully move the structure (approximately 0.6 miles), reestablish and restore the structure at the site selected by the City at Flying Creek Nature Preserve. Work includes, but is not limited to: • Clean out the structure ahead prior to the move including the removal of all pipes, plumbing, ductwork, etc. • Excavation a required to carry the existing slab/structure. (Approximately 4’ below grade) and all around the structure and out away from the structure ±15' with a gradual slope (machine workable) back to grade as necessary • Infill any doors and windows with CMU block per House Mover’s direction prior to move. • Engagement of a pre-qualified “House Mover” with the experience and expertise to lift, move and relocate a masonry structure intact and without unnecessary damage, deterioration or destruction to the structure. • Project coordination between the City (owner), A&E Team (Design), House Mover (subcontractor) and all permitting/regulatory agencies. • Cast any necessary new precast blocks ready and at the new site ahead of time. • Provide a clear, solid move route including tree trimming, tree removal, root removal, traffic control, police escort, excavation and utility line relocation/adjustment. • All site work required at the receiving site including but not limited to: o Clearing and grubbing o Grading of an entrance pathway for the structure move o Backfill and grading (around structure) o Complete finishing grade and stabilization of receiving site • New foundation excavated and the footers poured with a ramp excavated prior to moving. • Buildup of the new foundation necessary to receive the relocated structure • The shimming, supporting, grouting and infilling of relocated structure to the receiving foundation. • Full restoration of the existing site: backfill/compaction of the building voided footprint, asphalt repair, and other incidentals required to restore the site post move. • Removal from and restoration of structure from prophylactic measure installed to support move. • Additional: Private and Police Escorts, Utility Line Removals, Route Obstacle Removal, Excavation/Grading for move route, Bonding, and coordination and Bridge Engineering, if needed, are all costs should be considered a subsidiary obligation of the lump sum bid price. Questions or comments pertaining to this bid must be presented in writing, sent as e-mail to the attention of the Purchasing Manager, Erin Wolfe, 555 South Section St., Fairhope, AL 36532, e-mail: Purchasing@FairhopeAL.gov, by Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. or will be forever waived. The City reserves the right to accept or reject all bids or any portion thereof, and to waive informalities and to furnish any item of material or work to change the amount of the CONTRACT, whichever is in the best interest of the City of Fairhope. Bids shall be accompanied by a Bid Security equal to 5% (percent) of the bid price, but in no event more than $10,000.00. Bid Security shall be in the form of a Bid Bond or a cashier's check payable to The City of Fairhope. The BIDDER to whom award is made shall provide a Performance Bond equal to 100% of the CONTRACT Amount and a Labor and Material Bond equal to 50% of the CONTRACT amount. The BIDDER agrees to relocate the Henry Stuart House from its present location at 22787 US Highway 98, Fairhope, AL 36532 to Flying Creek Nature Preserve (a City Public Park) at 22430 Main Street, Fairhope, AL 36532 in Ninety (90) calendar days allowed for work, no exceptions for holidays, following a 15-day Notice to Proceed Period.
