Tree and brush removal services at the East Fork WMA Behounek tract. Question Submission Close Date To Lucas Straw (712) 362-1651 lucas.straw@dnr.iowa.gov 7/29/2026, 11:59 PM CDT This project will involve the removal of all trees and brush from up to 9 acres of remnant prairie on the East Fork WMA - Behounek tract in Humboldt County (Section 8 T93N R28W). Access to the site will be in the NW corner of the State property (-42.84565N/-94.184672W) along Oak Avenue, approximately 1 mile due north of Livermore, Iowa. All trees and brush present are to be removed . All trees 3" DBH and greater will be felled and the stumps cut flush with the ground , and treated with herbicide (provided by the State). Cut trees and stump butts will be piled in areas designated by Unit staff. No grubbing or pulling of root balls will take place. Tree piles will be stacked tall and tight to facilitate burning of the piles by DNR staff at a later time. All brush will be forestry mowed to facilitate future maintenance of the site. No forestry mowed material will be longer than 3 feet when completed, back dragging may be required to achieve satisfactory conditions. Finished site conditions will be such that use of a tractor mower is possible. All work will happen on dry or frozen ground to reduce potential soil disturbance.
