Improvement of 0.99 miles of woods road including road-bed grading, excavator work, culvert installation, and stump removal. The goal of this project is to improve approximately 0.99 miles of existing forest road to accommodate log truck traffic. The project area is described on the attached map. Large trees within the project ROW have been cleared. Some additional brushing or minor tree removal may be necessary to complete the project. The general specifications are as follows. The entire forest road length shall be leveled/shaped with a dozer and excavator to control water and provide a proper base to support traffic. Where necessary, diversion ditches, broad based dips, and water bars shall be constructed. Hills shall be cut to reduce slope and sharp corners shall be straightened as needed to allow for the passage of trucks. Soil removed from the roadbed and from uplands adjacent to the road shall be borrowed and moved to other parts of the road as needed to meet specifications . No fill or debris may be deposited outside of the existing road grade in wetland areas. The finished driving surface shall be at least 14 feet in width. This will require the removal of stumps in the roadway and adjacent ditches, and the sloping of banks and ditches to allow water to drain away from the roadway. Approximately 700 linear feet of the project will be new road and will require additional stump removal and earthwork to meet the final specification. The finished roadbed must be graded relatively smooth and evenly packed (via trucks, dozer or other) and have a crowned/shaped surface capable of shedding water to both sides. The crown of the trail should be 2-4%. The project will also require the installation of approximately 4 culverts by the contractor. The County will purchase and provide the culvert pipes for the project. Wisconsin DNR forest road BMPs for water quality must be followed throughout this project.
