Site work and outdoor lighting for a mixed-use development in Portland, Maine. Completed plans call civil work for a road / highway and sidewalk / parking lot.

Question Deadline 05/28/2026 at 12:00 PM ET All questions shall be directed in writing ONLY to the Purchasing Office, 389 Congress St., Portland ME 04101 The City of Portland, Maine, is accepting applications for the use of Contractor's Equipment with operators, Contractor's personnel and for the purchase of materials on an as needed basis for a contract period that will begin with the execution of this contract and last for one year, with renewal option for up to four additional years by mutual agreement. This work shall consist of the construction of asphalt, brick, paved, or cement concrete sidewalks and driveways on a crushed gravel base, and unpaved and/or bituminous paved tree wells in accordance with these specifications and in reasonably close conformity with the details. Limits of the work where new bituminous asphalt or Portland Cement Concrete pavement or sidewalk will match existing shall be cleanly saw cut prior to demolition operations. Sidewalks shall meet ADA requirements of a maximum 2% cross-slope and maximum running slope of 5%, or 8.3% when a landing exists. Design details for individual ramps have been provided for informational purposes only in order to better estimate the level of effort required to achieve ADA compliance but it is expected the contractor will need to make changes as needed in the field to achieve this. If ADA compliance cannot be achieved at a location designated for improvement within the contract documents the Contractor shall alert the Engineer to the issue immediately. This work shall include the construction of sidewalk ramps at locations as shown on the plans and shall be in accordance with the applicable details and with the current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and PROWAG requirements and guidelines, including, but not limited to, the following. o Walkways shall have a maximum cross slope (perpendicular to the direction of travel) of 2% and a maximum longitudinal slope (along the direction of travel) of 5%, unless the longitudinal slope of roadway issteeper. o Curb ramps may have a running slope of up to 8.33% (1" per foot), but are not requiredto exceed 15' in length. Where 8% running slope is not possible, curb stones are to be set to provide constant slope over 15', along top-of-curb, from full curb reveal to flushcurb. o It is preferred to have a minimum ramp slope of 3% to ensure no ponding occurs on the ramp and detectable warning panel. This may not always be feasible but is required when possible. o The maximum cross slope of curb ramps is 2%. In certain locations it is permissible to exceed 2% to match into the existing slope of a roadway perpendicular to the sidewalk. See plans and coordinate with engineer/resident. o Landing areas shall have a maximum slope of 2% in all directions. o Particular attention should be paid to areas where the sidewalk crosses driveways. These intersections must contain a pedestrian pathway with a 2% cross slope. Width of the pedestrian pathway shall be per plan, with an absolute minimum of 4feet. o Where guidelines require a 2% maximum slope, the Contractor should aim to construct a 1.5% slope in the field in order to account for constructiontolerance. If the contractor determines that the above standards are not compatible with site conditions, they shall contact the engineer/resident immediately upon discovery and request guidance.Installation of a ramp or sidewalk segment that differs from the plan without guidance from and approval of engineer/resident, and which does not meet ADA standards will not beaccepted. Contractor shall coordinate with engineer/resident for review and inspection of formwork and base gravel preparation prior to pouring concrete sidewalks or installing HMA on bituminous or brick sidewalks.
