Saving Project...

Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Ottawa, Ontario. Completed plans call for the construction of a 216,000-square-foot, five-story above grade library; and for site work for a library.

Encompassing over 216,000 sq ft, the new building will feature shared spaces, such as the Town Hall, café and large multi-purpose meeting areas, along with spaces devoted to specific uses of the Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada. The overall size of the facility will be approximately 20,000 gross sq m (216,000 sq ft) with 61% or 12,080 sq m (133,000 sq ft) allocated to the Ottawa Public Library, and 39% or 7,710 sq m (83,000 sq ft) to Library and Archives Canada. The Project will be located at 557 Wellington Street, a site owned by the City of Ottawa that is proximate to a Light Rail Transit station. It is conservatively anticipated that the joint facility will have average of 5,000 visitors a day, but daily peak numbers could be significantly higher. Maximizing the environmental sustainability of the building was a major focus during the design phase of the Joint Facility. The facility will achieve at minimum, a LEED Gold Certification. Location 555 Albert St (formerly 557 Wellington Street). *Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers are currently unreleased for publication.
