Site work for a civil project in Norfolk, Virginia. Design plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
Scope of work: Four storm surge barriers, one mile of levee, eight miles of floodwall, 11 tide gates and seven pump and power stations. Location - Four areas across the city were seen as the most vulnerable: Ghent-Downtown-Harbor Park along the Elizabeth River, Ocean View near Pretty Lake, the area surrounding the Lafayette River as well as Broad Creek near the Elizabeth River. This project is a partnership between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) with the City of Norfolk. The full project, which is expected to be complete in 2032, has five phases: Downtown: flood walls with a levee, surge barriers and natural and nature-based features connecting to the Ohio Creek Watershed project; Pretty Lake: A system of floodwalls and storm surge barriers to reduce storm surge from entering Pretty Lake; Lafayette: Storm surge barrier starting at the Port of Virginia's Norfolk International Terminal in order to reduce storm surge risk to the Lafayette River watershed; Broad Creek: A system of floodwalls, storm surge barriers and tide gates to reduce storm surge from entering Broad Creek at Interstate 264; Nonstructural: Nonstructural, property-specific flood mitigation projects such as home elevations, basement fills and floodproofing in multiple areas of the city. As of April 8, 2025, USACE was responsible for the design. The city chose a project manager. Also selected were a planning and design firm, engineering and a construction consultant.
