Site work and paving for a sidewalk / parking lot in Batavia, New York. Completed plans call for site work for a sidewalk / parking lot; and for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot.
The project consists of the installation of new sidewalks, curbs, curb ramps and associated work at various locations in the City of Batavia as described in the Contract Documents. The project consists of the installation of new sidewalks, curbs, curb ramps and associated work at various locations in the City of Batavia as described in the Contract Documents. A bid security in the amount of 5% of the total bid made payable to the "City of Batavia" will be required and is subject to the conditions provided in the Instructions to Bidders. Failure to submit a bid bond or certified check with bid will result in automatic disqualification of bid. If, upon acceptance of his bid, a bidder fails to enter into a Contract with the City of Batavia, the bid security shall be forfeited to and become the property of the City. No bidder may withdraw his Bid within forty-five (45) calendar days after the actual date of the opening thereof. The successful bidder will be required to furnish a performance bond and payment bond, each in an amount equal to 100 percent (100%) of the total Contract award amount. DESCRIPTION OF BID ITEMS A. The CONTRACTOR shall supply all labor, equipment, and materials to complete the work outlined in this section unless specified otherwise. The work under the Project includes, but is not limited to, the following: 1. Item 1 - Sidewalk Replacement Under the various sub-items of Item 1, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to remove existing sidewalks and ramps and furnish and install new concrete sidewalks and ramps, at the specified thickness, as shown and specified in the Contract Documents. The Work under this Item includes, but is not limited to the following: a. Mobilization and demobilization. b. Removal and off-Site disposal of concrete sidewalks, curb ramps, tree roots, topsoil, grass, fill material, unsuitable materials and excess materials. Off-Site disposal areas shall be provided by the CONTRACTOR at his cost and expense. c. Preparation, grading and compaction of subgrade and subbase prior to installation of new concrete work, select backfill materials necessary for adjustment of sidewalk and curb ramp grades and to replace unsatisfactory materials. d. All concrete materials, mixing, placing, form work, troweling and finishing of concrete sidewalk and curb ramp surfaces. e. Saw-cutting of sidewalks and adjacent areas to provide smooth and even transitions to the new work. Saw-cuts include saw-cuts of asphalt road parallel to areas where new sidewalks are to be installed adjacent to the road. f. Topsoil, seeding, restoration and repairs to lawns disturbed during sidewalk removal and installation operations. g. All traffic and pedestrian controls and safety measures necessary during construction. Curing and protection of new concrete sidewalks and curb ramps during construction operations and curing periods, and until final acceptance of the Work. All costs associated with providing a finisher at the Site to remain until concrete surfaces have hardened after each concrete installation shall also be included under this Item. i. All else necessary and required to complete the concrete sidewalks and curb ramp installations, and not included under other Items of the Contract, shall be included under this Item. Under Bid Items 1A and 1B, the CONTRACTOR shall remove existing sidewalks, and furnish and install new concrete sidewalks of the specified thickness as outlined in the Contract Documents and as specified herein. All curb ramps installed on this Project along with all sidewalks crossing driveways shall be 6-inch thickness. All other sidewalks shall be 4-inch thickness unless otherwise specified. 2. Item 2 - Removal and Disposal of Sidewalks Without Replacement Under this Item, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to remove existing sidewalks and dispose of the removed sidewalks at an off-Site location. This item is intended to be used only in areas where existing sidewalks are to be removed and no new sidewalk will be installed in its place. Removal and disposal of other existing sidewalks where a new sidewalk is to be installed is included in other Items of the Contract. The Work under this Item includes, but is not limited to the following: a. Mobilization and demobilization. b. Removal and off-Site disposal of concrete sidewalks, curb ramps, tree roots, topsoil, grass, fill material, unsuitable materials and excess materials. Off-Site disposal areas shall be provided by the CONTRACTOR at his cost and expense. c. Furnishing approved backfill materials to fill in the areas where sidewalks were removed, preparation, grading and compaction of backfill materials. d. All final topsoil, grading, seeding and maintenance of areas restored. e. All else necessary and required to remove and dispose of existing sidewalks where new sidewalks are not to be installed, and not included under other Items of the Contract, shall be included under this Item. 3. Item 3 - Restoration of Asphalt and Concrete Driveways Under the various sub-items of Item 3, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to restore asphalt and concrete driveways (including driveway aprons) that were disturbed and removed during the sidewalk removal and installation, and at other areas shown or as directed by the ENGINEER. The Work under this Item includes, but is not limited to the following: a. Mobilization and demobilization. b. Removal and off-Site disposal of asphalt and concrete driveway materials, tree roots, topsoil, grass, fill material, unsuitable materials and excess materials adjacent to the areas of sidewalk removals. Off-Site disposal areas shall be provided by the CONTRACTOR at his cost and expense. c. Preparation, grading and compaction of subgrade and subbase prior to installation of asphalt and concrete replacement driveways, select backfill materials necessary for adjustment of driveway grades and to replace unsatisfactory materials. d. All mixing, testing, placing, formwork, compaction and finishing of asphalt and concrete driveway surfaces. e. Saw-cutting of driveways and adjacent areas to provide smooth and even transitions to the new work. Saw-cuts include saw-cuts of asphalt road parallel to areas where new driveways and aprons are to be installed adjacent to the road. f. Topsoil, seeding, restoration and repairs to lawns disturbed during driveway removal and installation operations. g. All traffic and pedestrian controls and safety measures necessary during construction. h. Curing and protection of new asphalt and concrete driveways during construction operations and curing periods, and until final acceptance of the Work. All costs associated with providing a finisher at the Site to remain until concrete surfaces have hardened after each concrete installation shall also be included under this Item. i. All else necessary and required to complete the restoration of the asphalt and concrete driveways included under this Contract. 4. Item 4 - Detectable Surfaces at Ramps Under this Item, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to furnish and install detectable surfaces at new constructed and existing sidewalk curb ramps, as shown and specified in the Contract Documents. The Work includes furnishing and installing a manufactured detectable surface, setting, alignment and finishing of the detectable surfaces where shown and specified. 5. Item 5 - Concrete Curbs Under this Item, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to furnish, install and construct concrete curbs at the locations shown and specified in the Contract Documents. The Work under this Item includes, but is not limited to the following: a. Mobilization and demobilization. b. Removal and off-Site disposal of existing concrete curbs, unsuitable materials and excess materials. Off-Site disposal areas shall be provided by the CONTRACTOR at his cost and expense. c. All necessary excavation, preparation, grading and compaction of subgrade and subbase prior to installation of new concrete curbs and select backfill materials. d. All concrete materials, all mixing, placing, formwork, troweling and finishing of concrete curbs e. Saw-cutting of sidewalks and adjacent areas to provide smooth and even transitions to the new curbs. Saw-cuts include saw-cuts of asphalt road parallel to areas where new curbs are to be installed adjacent to the road. f. Backfill materials, backfilling and grading behind curbs, topsoil, seeding, restoration and repairs to lawns disturbed during curb removal and installation operations. g. All traffic and pedestrian controls and safety measures necessary during construction. h. Curing and protection of new concrete curbs during construction operations and curing periods, and until final acceptance of the Work. i. All else necessary and required to complete the curb installations, and not included under other Items of the Contract, shall be included under this Item. 6. Item 6 - Concrete Testing Under this Item, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to complete the concrete testing, as outlined in the Contract Documents. The Work includes concrete temperature tests, slump analysis, air content and 28-day compressive cylinder testing as outlined in Section 02510 of the Specifications. Concrete material testing shall be measured and paid for, per each series of tests performed. A series of tests include concrete temperature tests, slump analysis, air content and 28-day compressive cylinder testing collectively as one series of tests. 7. Item 7 - Striping at Crosswalks Under this Item, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to complete the striping of the roads at the crosswalk locations shown on the drawings and as outlined in the Contract Documents. The Work shall be completed in accordance with the NYSDOT standard sheets and City of Batavia standards. 8. Item 8 - Extra Select Backfill Material Under this Item, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to supply, deliver, place and compact extra select backfill where ordered and directed by the ENGINEER. The Work under this Item includes compaction of select fill materials and disposal of displaced materials. This Item will only be paid for where extra select backfill materials are specifically ordered and directed to be installed by the ENGINEER, and where not included for payment under other items of the Contract. Unauthorized excavation, or over excavation, requiring select backfill shall be at the CONTRACTOR's expense. Item 9 - Extra Excavation and Backfill Under this Item, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to perform extra excavation and backfill where specifically ordered and directed by the ENGINEER. Included under this Item shall be all excavation outside the work limits as ordered by the ENGINEER as part of this Contract. This Item includes removal and disposal of blacktop and paving materials, existing concrete walks and driveways. The work shall include all sheeting, shoring, bracing, dewatering, removal and disposal of excess materials, all restoration, backfilling and compaction of native material, as required to complete the work under this Contract. 10. Item 10 - Extra Landscaping and Restoration Under this Item, the CONTRACTOR shall provide all labor, materials, tools and equipment necessary and required to complete extra landscaping and restoration where specifically ordered and directed by the ENGINEER. Included under this Item shall be all finish grading, topsoil, seeding, mulching, fertilizing, maintenance, and all other associated work to complete the extra landscaping and restoration. This Item will only be paid for where extra landscaping and restoration is specifically ordered and directed by the ENGINEER, and where not included for payment under other Items of the Contract. 11. Item 11 - General Construction Allowance Under this Item, the CONTRACTOR shall provide additional work where specifically ordered and directed by the ENGINEER, and is entirely outside the scope of work as defined in the Contract Documents. Only additional construction work specifically ordered and directed by the ENGINEER, and not shown or implied on the plans or specifications will be included under this Item. 1.5 MODIFICATION A. The OWNER and ENGINEER reserve the right to make such changes in the order and execution of the Work to be done under these Specifications, which in the judgment of the ENGINEER may be necessary or expedient to carry out the intent of the design of the Contract. No increase in unit prices, if any, over the Contract rates will be paid the CONTRACTOR because of such changes.
