Each Bid must be accompanied by Bid security in the form of a certified check, bank check, or Bid bond (in the required form) for 10 percent of the Bid total. The Project generally consists of the replacement of approximately 700 feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer main, replacement of 20 residential sewer laterals, and pavement restoration. The project is located in Heidelberg Township, A pre-bid meeting will not be held; site visits are to be self-guided. General Construction: Includes all piping, fittings, excavation, demolition of existing sewer main and lateral pipe, temporary pumping/maintenance of sewer service, backfill, restoration, and testing work as described in the drawings and specifications Background: The Heidelberg Heights sanitary sewer system was constructed in the 1970s, and consists of 8-inch vitrified clay main line and 6-inch vitrified clay sewer laterals. The 6-inch VCP sewer laterals connect with 4-inch cast iron building sewer lines at the private property line. CCTV inspection performed by LCA has revealed areas of severe infiltration from groundwater, caused by various forms of deterioration, damage, and internal lining failure. B. This project includes three (3) runs of sewer line to be replaced in line from manhole to manhole (approx. 700 lf), preserving and re-using the existing manholes (from MH #19 to MH #20). These lines are located along Thompson Stree. Link modular type seals are to be installed at each existing manhole to provide watertight connections with the replaced pipe. Full depth stone backfill is to be performed. C. Each excavated manhole is to have an exterior manhole encapsulation system installed around the chimney and cone section joints to prevent infiltration. D. The sewer main line replacement will require temporary plugging and bypass pumping to maintain system sewer service, demolition and removal of the existing main, demolition and removal of existing laterals to the roadway right-of-way line, and the installation of new main line and laterals. E. Twenty (20) each sewer service laterals are to be replaced as part of the scope of work (number to be field verified). The length of each lateral line shall be field determined based on distance to roadway right-of-way (or to the limit of easement), and Contractor shall be paid according to actual installed length of pipe. The scope of work is to include excavation and demolition of the existing sewer lateral from sewer main to the property line (at the roadway right-of-way limit); installation of a cleanout assembly (consisting of 6-inch PVC tee fitting, 6-inch riser pipe and threaded cap to grade) at the property line; installation of new 6-inch PVC lateral pipe; stone backfill envelope around pipe; suitable backfill to grade; and surface restoration. F. The Work shall also include temporary and permanent roadway restoration and temporary and permanent easement/lawn restoration. Permanent pavement restoration over the main trench shall be per the details attached to this project manual and shall include overlay of one-half of the paved roadway width on the side of the road where the replaced sewer main is located. G. Incidentals Included in the Work: The Work will also include lawn restoration for any encroachment on to private property; temporary relocation of fences, mailboxes and other portable structures; trench dewatering; bypass pumping of wastewater; and erosion and sedimentation protection measures as part of trench dewatering activities (silt filter bags, etc.).
