The Group led by Prof. Merida (MeridaLabs from hereto) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of British Columbia (UBC) has developed a new technology to produce hydrogen from natural gas. The technology is based on thermal cracking. A lab prototype has been developed and tested. UBC is looking to scale up the technology to produce approximately 200 kg of hydrogen per day. The selected general contractor will work closely with MeridaLabs at UBC to develop the system capable of producing 200 kg of hydrogen per day, and is expected to become a partner with MeridaLabs for future technology implementations. The selected general contractor will be involved in all phases of the Project from engineering design to operation support. The Project will be located in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The hydrogen produced from the pilot plant will be delivered to ATCO Gas and Pipeline Ltd.'s hydrogen blending facility where hydrogen will be mixed with natural gas and sent to local communities.
