School District 67, Okanagan-Skaha is inviting general contractors to pre-qualify for the purpose of submitting bids for the construction of a new gymnasium addition and interior renovations at the Summerland Secondary School. Approximate Construction Budget: $7 million Summerland Secondary School was originally constructed in 1951. Subsequent additions have increased the capacity of the school to its current size of 700 students. To address several shortcomings with the physical education facilities, School District 67 has received funding approval from the Ministry of Education to add a second gymnasium including washrooms, change rooms, and storage space. The area of the addition is approximately 1,000m2, to be constructed directly abutting the north side of the existing gymnasium. In conjunction with the addition there will be a minor renovation to the existing gymnasium, as well as a minor amount of structure - and selective interior - demolition. Site works will include the construction of a new asphalt paved service lane around the new gymnasium as well as small amounts of sidewalks and concrete stairs. The primary structure for the new gym will be structural steel, on a concrete foundation. The gymnasium floor will consist of an athletic hardwood floor over a concrete slab on grade.
