Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a civil project in Lawrence, Kansas. Completed plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.

Project 2021-31 will replace bridge 0964-1000, and Project 2019-56 will replace culvert 0990-1000. Both projects are located in the 900 block of E 1000 Road. Public Works combined the two projects under one bid solicitation, intended to be awarded to a single contractor. Bids were opened on June 7, 2022. One bid was received as follows: Bidder Bid Estimate Engineers Estimate $2,554,111.07 Bryan Ohlmeier Construction Co Inc $2,937,858.85 15% Pursuant to Kansas Statute 68-521, a contract cannot be awarded for an amount exceeding 110% of the engineers estimate. Public Works recommends rejecting the bid at this time. The construction industry has been impacted by fuel prices, commodity prices, supply chain problems, and labor shortages. Public Works will monitor these conditions and return with recommendations for future bids.
