Renovation of a power facility in Aurora, Colorado. Completed plans call for the renovation of a power facility.
The City of Aurora is seeking opportunities to reduce its carbon footprint and energy operating expenses through renewable energy. The Spinney Tap Facility is a remote flow control facility located near the Spinney Mountain Reservoir and operated by the City of Aurora Water Department. The Spinney Tap infrastructure is designed to automatically control water flow rates to several downstream municipalities The Spinney Tap facility is not served by any electric utility, with the totality of its usage requirements currently served by an antiquated solar photovoltaics and battery storage system, and a backup propane generator for when the PV + batteries cannot meet the load.
