Site work and paving for a road / highway in Park Ridge, Illinois. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.

The work consists of milling 80,388 sy of existing asphalt and replacement with 6,753 tons of HMA surface course, 5,778 tons of binder course, 7,963 ft of curb and gutter, and all related work. Revise the first sentence of Article 423.01 to read "This work shall consist of constructing Portland cement concrete driveway pavement on a prepared subgrade for driveway aprons lying between new combination curb and gutter and the sidewalk." Construction Requirements: Revise section 423.06 to include the following: "Driveway aprons are to be replaced at the grades specified in the field and essentially to the same width. Saw-cutting, full depth, will be required in locations where joints do not exist as directed by the Engineer. Replacement shall be with a P.C.C. pavement section 6" thick. Landscape restoration shall consist of top soil and seed and be incidental to the contract except where topsoil and sod is determined to be installed in the field by engineer. " Basis of Payment: Revise Section 423.11 to read "This work will be paid for at the contract unit price per square yard for P.C.C. DRIVEWAY PAVEMENT, 6". Beginning on the date that work begins on this project, the Contractor shall assume responsibility for normal maintenance of all existing roadways within the limits of the improvement. This normal maintenance shall include all repair work deemed necessary by the Engineer, but shall not include snow removal operations. Traffic control and protection for maintenance of roadways will be provided by the Contractor as required by the Engineer. If items of work have not been provided in the contract, or otherwise specified for payment, such items, including the accompanying traffic control and protection required by the Engineer, will be paid for in accordance with Article 109.04 of the Standard Specifications. This work shall consist of constructing Portland Cement Concrete sidewalk on a compacted subbase and shall be performed in accordance with Sections 210, 252, 311, and 424 of the Standard Specifications with the following alterations. General Requirements: Sidewalks shall be Class SI concrete placed on 4-inches of Sub-base Granular Material, Type B. Expansion joints shall be placed at intervals of not more than 50 feet. Contraction joints shall be placed at intervals of not more than 5 feet. At driveway apron locations and utility trenches, the depth of concrete shall be increased to 6-inches. All required excavation and sub-base granular material, Type B shall be included. Landscape restoration shall consist of top soil and seed and be incidental to the contract except where topsoil and sod is determined to be installed in the field by engineer. Method of Measurement: Portland cement concrete sidewalk construction will be measured in square feet of new sidewalk placed. Basis of Payment: This work will be paid for at the contract unit price per square foot for P.C.C. SIDEWALK, 5", which price shall include all required expansion joints, special texturing, additional thickness at driveway aprons, compacted subbase granular material, and required excavation and removal of any existing unsuitable material as needed. This work shall consist of the complete removal and replacement of curb or combination curb and gutter. Work shall be according to Sections 440 and 606 of the Standard Specifications, State Standard 606001, District Detail BD-24 and as directed by the Engineer except as modified herein. Curb or combination curb and gutter removal and replacement shall match the type of the existing curb or combination curb and gutter. Types may be variable and are to meet existing dimensions and field conditions. Locations of removal and replacement shall be determined by the Resident Engineer at the time of construction. Unsuitable material to be removed, as directed by the Engineer, shall be replaced with subbase granular material, type B or additional thickness of concrete. Suitable backfill material, when required, shall be replaced as directed by the Engineer. Epoxy coated tie bars, #6 (20) - 24" (610) long at 24" (610) centers, shall be used except when adjacent to flexible pavement. Longitudinal bars, if encountered, are not to be replaced. Hot-mix asphalt surface removal on the existing gutter flag, if encountered, shall be included in the removal of the curb and gutter. Saw cuts shall be according to Article 440.03 of the Standard Specifications. 1/2 " (13) preformed expansion joints shall be used at concrete sidewalks, driveways and medians.
