Saving Project...

Demolition, site work, new construction and renovation of a municipal facility in Chesapeake City, Maryland. Conceptual plans call for the demolition of a municipal facility; for the construction of a municipal facility; for the renovation of a municipal facility; and for site work for a municipal facility.

The existing Cecil County Animal Shelter is undersized Far the number or animals housed on an annual 48SrS. This project seeks to build upon the Phase 1 - Main Building Expansion Project which created a laundry/donation receiving room and was completed in December 2020. Phase 1 was funded by a donation made to the Community Services Foundation earmarked for capital projects at Cecil County Animal Services. The Phase 2 - Main Building Expansion Sprinkler installation Project will provide a building addition of approx. 1100 square feet with partitions for a feral/trap and release room, a stray cat holding room, a feline nursery, a pet meeting room and a food preparation area. This project will also create an ADA compliant entry to the cattery. The existing "catio" will be demolished to accommodate the proposed building addition and a new "catio" will be provided adjacent to the new addition. The 1100 SF addition will accommodate the increased number of animals housed within the shelter and improve emergency egress for staff and animals. The project will also install a sprinkler system for fire protection throughout the facility. In September 2019, a small electrical fire occurred at the facility. While no occupants nor animals were injured and the facility sustained minor damage, the need to install a fire protection system has become apparent and recommended by insurance provider. A Design and Engineering Study commenced 10 2021 to include costs estimates associated with both the expansion and the sprinkler system. Following 75% completion of the study, additional funding was requested in FY23's CIP to account for inflationary increases. Upon full completion of the study, subsequent to the start of FY23, cost estimates increased yet again. As such, additional funding is being requested in FY24 to cover both updated estimates and future projected inflationary increases. Please note the numbers below are meant to serve as a placeholder and will be accurately updated over the course of the next few months as conditions change. This project is included in the city's fy 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program. As of June 16, 2023, further details regarding design and construction timelines have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
