Site work for a road / highway in Telluride, Colorado. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway.
San Miguel County reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids. The San Miguel County Parks & Open Space department is requesting, from experienced structural engineers, estimates of cost to prepare engineered drawings that will be used to construct steel stairs, railings and observation deck. The location is at the base of Bridal Veil Falls at the east end of Telluride, Colorado. This section of trail across the rock is steep, without footholds or handholds, and is slippery when wet. To improve and enhance public safety, the County's Parks & Open Space department would like to install steel stairs to cross the boulder. It is also important for the stairs and viewing platform to be styled with influences from our mining history and with as little intrusion into the natural surroundings as possible. Proposed cost to create engineered drawings of steel stairs, railings and observation deck with mount for an interpretive sign, to be installed into the rock face Stairs are to be approximately 5' wide by 1.5" thick, 14" deep and vertically spaced 12" apart to allow for 2 way travel Material shall be heavy duty, perforated steel with a slip resistant surface The total length of the stairs, to the observation deck, is approximately 38'-40' long with a bend around a small spruce tree. Design is up to the engineers discretion, however it is tentatively envisioned a steel I beam will be mounted to the rock in the center of the stairs. The railings are to be approximately 44" high and will be used to tie the outer portions of the stairs to the rock. They will also need to be designed so that they are safe for small children to not pass through. The viewing deck is to be 5'x10' with an interpretive sign mount, for a sign measuring approximately 36"x24", that will be installed at a later date. There will also be railings on the downhill sides of the deck. The deck will be constructed of the same material as the stairs. If the height of the observation deck exceeds 12" off the uphill side, another step will be required.
