The City of Rock Island is hereby requesting proposals from qualified contractors to submit pricing for the demolition of the Bear Manufacturing Building at 2016 5th Avenue. The City of Rock Island, Illinois, sitting on the border of Illinois and Iowa, is centrally located in the Quad Cities and is approximately 197 miles west of the Chicagoland area. Rock Island is a historic community with several longstanding buildings that hold rich, sentimental value. Among these is the Bear Manufacturing Building located on the southern periphery of the downtown area, at 2016 5th Avenue. The building was labeled as a contributing resource in the Downtown Historic District, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019 by the United States Department of the Interior. Built in 1921, the two-story brick building was used to manufacture automotive equipment until the 1960's. Equipment included metal plating, and paint dipping/spraying. Unfortunately, the property has gone through a cycle of abandonment and has largely sat vacant. Any questions on the RFP should be received no later than October 20, 2023 at 5:00 pm. Responses to questions will be posted on the bid page by October 24, 2023 at 11:00 am.
